MILIMANI - Kenya’s first pro trail running team

As Kenyans slowly step into the world of trail running, we had the chance to meet the ones leading the way: the Milimani Runners. What struck us first was how sacred running is in their culture. Their training grounds in Iten (a place known as the Home of Champions) feels less like a facility and more like a mythological arena. Some run for gold. Many run to also make it out of poverty. We built the project in two parts. First, in Kenya, observing their daily rhythm and capturing the intensity of their workouts. Then, in studio, creating a more abstract space, where red earth meets shadows, sweat, and textures. Salomon gave us full trust. No briefs. Just, “make something cool.” That kind of freedom doesn’t happen often. And it made all the difference.
